Quite literally all of it, but she's more interested in ranting like a diary to be validated by a small audience of similarly siloed groupthink to imagine that she's smarter than a world she won't actually engage in.
What is so key to sit with is this here “This is not grassroots. This is branding.” Grassroots movement does require us to be involved - physically maybe even more physically over financially working through the contradictions that make New York New York. I may be jaded but the cabrals claim no easy victories is filtering the moment for me
??? he had 50,000 people knock in over a million doors. I spoke to so many people in a meaningful way that would not have been possible without thw organizational structure of this campaign.
Only Speaking to people - and I’m not knocking your efforts no pun intended does not bring substantive political change, it COULD be a catalyst- in essence to me that’s the point of this piece. The DSA agenda is ambitious for a city who gladly voted for a cop. Hence the no easy victories aspect. Grassroots organizing rarely finds success if ever with just electoral politics.
I don't think your concerns are unfounded, but I do think your prognostication is a little heavy.
If a politician earnestly holds and clearly communicates a lot of (great) leftist values and wants to see a less capitalist, less racist, more affordable NYC, why not (at least tentatively) support that cause rather than preemptively expecting it to get swallowed into the void of finance capital? Plenty of politicians have kept their spines and haven’t fallen into that hole. Who’s to say Zohran will?
Thank you for your writing. I appreciate your angle.
The Obama 2008-ification of Progressive Politics. Lots of graphic design and empty promises, no real strategy on how to implement these policies on a large scale.
Obama called his own grandmother a "typical white person". This guy hates "Zionists", which means he hates Jews. The left has repeatedly shown their selective racism since 2008
With all due respect sir, that was not the point and nobody has time for this illogical rhetoric. There were thousands of Jewish voters in NYC who supported Zohran. I agree with Zohran’s platform and proposed policies. The concern is whether or not he has a strategy or the experience to put them into action.
Socialism/Communism has never worked, but it has produced deaths in the millions. I take it you know that both Lenin and Stalin referred to “useful idiots”? That could happen here, too.
Liberals, whether Jewish or not, are unwilling and/or unable to grasp some simple realities of their policies. If Zohran gets in, Jews would be wise to leave as soon as possible - he introduced a bill in the New York legislature to fine synagogues that provide financial support to Isrealis in Juidea and Samaria. And he mentioned “globalizing the intifada”. That tells me everything I need to know about him.
I’m not sure who could get elected if they had to run through this wild gauntlet of conflicting qualifications you seem to need a candidate to have. This reads like someone who is bummed they aren’t as popular, driven, and principled as their current target. The claim about Mamdani essentially just being an influencer is wild. He is literally, currently, an assemblyman doing the job of a civil servant. Furthermore, he is 33 years old. That he knows how to utilize social media and his team understands how to bend its tropes and algorithmic trends to their benefit is essentially generational knowledge at this point.
None of what he is doing is performative. He shows up to trans rallies, confronts fascists, has met countless people across dozens of ethnicities and mixed nationalities, while inspiring 50,000 volunteers to carry the campaign torch.
I’m not sure what you mean. His platform is very clear, its economics are sound and have been given the approval of numerous economists. That you cannot imagine a world in which an American city raises taxes on the uber wealthy by a fraction to create sustenance for the working class is a testament to how deeply entrenched capitalism is within our citizenry.
Literally he can. And so can you. The ICC doesn’t have a standing police force and requires other states or individuals to absorb the labor of making an arrest. Just because our state is not obligated to arrest someone with a warrant doesn’t mean that we can’t. The idea that he is suggesting it is beautiful and speaks to a long lost internationalism that flouts the American exceptionalism often exhibited by our leaders. Look up OSPAAL or the Bandung conference. Just say you hate the downtown NYC scene. Maybe it is upsetting that their support for Mamdani appears to be contradictory to their behavior you’ve experienced? But your thesis is absolutely wrong. I am writing these responses because I think you are doing a disservice…
You might meet some Hamas, Hezbollah and Iranian sleeper cell members that Biden let in. Both the likes of you and Isrealis alike are infidels to them - and they believe in killing infidels.
Yea when you spend decades bombing people, stealing their land, invading their countries, demonizing their religion, killing their friends, families and sanctioning them to the point of starvation and poverty what the fuck do you expect us gonna happen?
Almost none of this makes sense at all lmao. Nicely written sentences to create a bunch of fantasy strawmen to lash out and feel smart.
This would’ve been a better critique (or critique at all) if you named what didn’t make sense…

That's an entirely different goalpost and point than her glibly stating “This is not grassroots. This is branding.”

The majority of his staff is Jewish.
As you know, leftist Jews are blind to the realities of Jew-hatred, The Jews on the Right understand it fully.

With respect: you’ve missed the point.
So why does he have a platform he can’t execute while exploiting the grievances of the working class and poor.

They are not and it’s intellectual dishonest to say they are—-it’s giving misinformation.
You contributed so many words to your article, it’s a bit of a surprise you’ve resulted to “Nuh uh” in this comment. You don’t have to take my word on the economics, you shouldn’t; I’m a poet not a mathematician. So I suggest you take these people’s word instead: https://progressive.international/wire/2025-06-19-economists-unite-in-support-of-zohran-mamdanis-plan-for-new-york-city/en
He's not a progressive. You're talking smack, a bit.
Just sharing: The Canary in the Coal Mine: Zohran Mamdani and his Push for Theocratic Socialism across America https://torrancestephensphd.substack.com/p/the-canary-in-the-coal-mine-zohran
this is def not the writers angle- not related at all.
Zohran hates "Zionists" which means he hates Jews.
He said he would arrest Netanyahu as NYC mayor that’s all you need to know.
Man says he would adhere to international law and arrest the Zionist Hitler? Welp I’m sold.
Legally he can’t do that
Legally the colony cannot commit genocide but here we are

He has no jurisdiction to do that. Is it downtown scene or racists in liberal face?
It's racists and Jew-haters in liberal face.
You might meet some Hamas, Hezbollah and Iranian sleeper cell members that Biden let in. Both the likes of you and Isrealis alike are infidels to them - and they believe in killing infidels.
Israelis=Nazi so that sounds pretty justified
Are you that dense? They would delete you just as fast as they would delete an Isreali.
Yea when you spend decades bombing people, stealing their land, invading their countries, demonizing their religion, killing their friends, families and sanctioning them to the point of starvation and poverty what the fuck do you expect us gonna happen?
Where’s the bad part
